MI101                    The Career Education Instructor

                                1.00 Quarter Credit Hours/30 Clock Hours

This course introduces the student to the qualities and characteristics desired in a master educator.  Topics include time and classroom management, as well as state board rules and regulations, and record keeping.

 MI102                    Learning Styles and Principles

                                1.00 Quarter Credit Hours/30 Clock Hours

This course covers the steps of the learning process as well as the different intelligence types and how to identify each type.  Strategies to identify and assist students with special needs will also be covered.

 MI103                    Methods of Teaching and Learning

                                1.00 Quarter Credit Hours/30 Clock Hours

Students will examine various methods for both teaching and learning.

 MI104                    Effective Communication

                                1.00 Quarter Credit Hours/30 Clock Hours

Students will identify methods for classroom management.  Focus will be on various classroom  control techniques, common learning barriers and other related topics.

 MI105                    Program Review, Development and Lesson Planning

                                1.00 Quarter Credit Hours/30 Clock Hours

This course introduces students to the program review process.  Topics covered include curriculum development, the use of an advisory council, writing learning objectives and the advantages of a lesson plan.

 MI106                    Educational Aids and Technology

Students will identify different types of educational aids and technology.  Strategies and guidelines to use educational aids effectively will also be covered.

 MI107                    The Art of Retaining

Student retention is introduced in this course.  This course covers the importance of student orientation, institutional culture, effective curriculum, and other related topics.

Students will examine techniques for effective presentations to facilitate learning within the educational setting.

This course covers supervisory and instructional skills for teaching students in a laboratory environment.

 MI110                    Instructor Practicum 2

In this course students will guide learners in both the theory and laboratory classrooms, under the direction of a master instructor.  The student will practice developing and presenting lesson plans, as well as classroom management and record keeping.

In this course students will guide learners in both theory and laboratory classrooms, under the supervision of a master instructor.  The student will practice developing and presenting lesson plans, as well as classroom management and record keeping.

In this course students will guide learners in both the theory and laboratory classrooms, under the direction of a master instructor.  The student will practice developing and presenting lesson plans, as well as classroom management and record keeping.

In this course students will guide learners in both the theory and laboratory classrooms, under the supervision of a master instructor.  The student will practice developing and presenting lesson plans, as well as classroom management and record keeping.

The Master Instructor program will provide current licensed Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Master Instructor examination.  The Master Instructor program consists of courses that prepare students with strategies and methods for classroom management, identifying different learning styles, instructional skills, curriculum development, as well as understanding the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering Rules and Regulations.  Upon successful completion of the Master Instructor program and passing the state board licensure examination, graduates will be eligible for an entry-level teaching position as a Master Barber Instructor or Master Cosmetology Instructor.

 
All course work meets Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering minimum curriculum requirements.

 

Master Instructor Students that have a current Cosmetology or Barber License with 2 years verifiable continued work experience will be credited up to 700 hours for this course per Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering.
